If you read last Monday’s blog, you know I shared about realizing that my body is not my business card. After it went out, I started wondering if I actually had it backwards. I planned to rewrite it before it sent buuuut… life with kids got busy, and, well, here we are.
Honestly? I’m glad it turned out this way, because this topic, our bodies, expectations, and body acceptance Pilates, deserves more space.
When I say my body is not my business card, I think about resisting the long-standing standards in the fitness and Pilates industry. Historically, the wellness world has highlighted small bodies, glowing skin, visible abs, and toned triceps as the gold standard.
But the truth?
People in all shapes and sizes do Pilates, and belong in Pilates.
Your body may or may not visibly change with a consistent practice. Body acceptance Pilates isn’t about reaching an idealized version of your body. It’s about strengthening, grounding, and connecting. My body looks one way with Pilates. Yours looks another. There is real, inherent body diversity, and it’s completely normal.
Another layer to this conversation is how society looks at people in the fitness industry. Many judge the effectiveness of someone’s workout routine or lifestyle based solely on what that person’s body looks like.
And honestly? That’s messed up. But it’s also extremely common.
People judge with their eyes because they’ve been conditioned to believe only certain bodies are “good bodies.”
When I consider the idea that my body IS my business card, it’s not about conforming, it’s about embracing. It’s about standing in the body I have and owning it. Strengths, softness, “flaws,” all of it.
That level of acceptance?
It’s hard. Like really hard.
But that’s also where the heart of body acceptance Pilates lives. It’s not just what we do on the reformer, it’s how we think, how we speak to ourselves, and how we show up.
At Orofino Wellness, we want you to feel confident in your body, not because of how it looks, but because of what it allows you to do. We want you to stay consistent even when your body doesn’t show big visual changes. So many of the best benefits of Pilates are unseen:
Better breath
Lower stress
More awareness
A stronger core
Greater resilience
A deeper connection with yourself
We want you to take up space. To move. To feel. To be fully, unapologetically you.
Your body is your business card. And so is mine.
And if you’re not comfortable with that yet? That’s okay. Stick around, we’ll walk with you through it.
