I recently had a client quit our challenge.
When she reached out, she shared that she was convinced Pilates, or at least Pilates classes, just weren’t right for her body. And in some ways, she wasn’t wrong.
Let me explain, especially if you’re new to Pilates or considering whether Pilates is right for you.
If you’re currently in one of our challenges or have tried our intro pack, you may have taken a lot of classes in a short period of time. For Pilates beginners, that can be a lot.
Why? Because Pilates is something new.
Pilates is a practice. It takes time, patience, and consistency to learn. You’re not supposed to be good at it right away. It may feel awkward. You may feel uncoordinated. You might feel certain movements in your neck because your core strength is still developing.
And that’s okay.
Pilates works muscles in ways most other workouts don’t. Because of that, soreness can show up differently too.
You might feel deeply sore, not always the “good sore” people talk about. Honestly, the first few times I did Pilates, I felt like I had the flu. It’s that deep, full-body soreness. Sometimes it even feels hard to walk afterward.
For Pilates beginners, this is normal. It’s part of your body learning a new way to move.
What we don’t want is for you to walk away feeling discouraged or believing Pilates isn’t for you, because I truly believe it is.
Pilates is one of the few movement methods that can support:
Every body
Every age
Every season of life
What might not be right for you yet is:
15 classes in 30 days
Group classes right away
You may have a history of injuries, medical considerations (like osteoporosis or degenerative disc disease), or you may simply be in a season of life where certain movements don’t feel supportive.
That doesn’t mean Pilates isn’t for you. It means we need to approach it differently.
At Orofino Wellness, Pilates is meant to:
Help rebuild strength after injury or pregnancy
Support you through physical limitations
Empower you to trust your body again
Show you that consistent, thoughtful movement matters
If you’ve tried Pilates and felt discouraged, or if you’re currently attending classes and questioning whether you’ll continue, I want to invite you into a conversation.
Email me here. Tell me what’s going on.
If you’re aggravating an injury, noticing increased joint pain, or experiencing unusual discomfort after class, I want to know. There is a solution, and our entire team is here to help you find it.
Here’s to your next best step.
