Everything You Need to Know About Starting Pilates at Orofino Wellness
What are the prerequisites for starting Pilates at Orofino Wellness? Trick question: there are none. You just have to be willing to start.
But here’s some of the things I’ve heard over the past few years:
- I have to lose some weight first.
- I’m not flexible enough.
- I have an old shoulder/hip/knee injury.
- I don’t know anything about the machine.
- I’m not fit.
The list goes on, but let’s clear a few things up.
Myth 1: You need to be a certain weight or body type
Starting Pilates has nothing to do with the number on a scale. You don’t have to be a certain weight or have a certain body type. All bodies are welcome in our space, full stop.
Myth 2: You need to be flexible
Being bendy is by no means required before starting Pilates. The practice will actually help you build flexibility and give you more mobility in general. You come as you are and we’ll meet you there.
Myth 3: You can’t start Pilates with an injury
You don’t have to be fully able-bodied to take a class. Starting Pilates with an injury, limited movement, or immobility in certain areas is absolutely possible and we’ve taught multiple clients in casts and boots! There are so many exercise options that we can always find a workaround.
Check with your doctor first if your injury warrants it, and let us know in your intake form or by messaging us so we can be prepped and ready for you.
Myth 4: You need to know what you’re doing before you start
You don’t need to know anything about Pilates before starting. That’s the whole point of coming to a studio. We can teach you (and we love having a newbie in the space!)
Myth 5: You need to be “in shape”
You can literally go from being an exercise hater to a Pilates enthusiast. We’ve seen it happen (more than once).
The bottom line: now is the time to start
No matter where you are in life, starting Pilates is for you, and now is the time.
